BRONZE v’s BRONZE RESIN

Bronze sculpture involves the ‘lost wax process’ – it is highly skilled, complex and labour intensive, which causes bronzes to be more expensive. Each edition is totally unique, as the complex process gives rise to variations; the cast bronze has a depth of colour and quality which can’t be replicated in bronze resin. Bronze casts are much heavier, cold to touch and you can guarantee the sculpture will be around for numerous generations! EJKemp’s bronze casts are produced by Art of Fine Nature, located in Shepton Mallet.

Bronze resin sculpture is also known as ‘cold cast bronze’ – it is made from a mixture of bronze powder and resin and the casting is faster and less expensive than casting in bronze. The sculpture is lighter but is more fragile, although easily repaired. High resin casting incorporates various fibres to improve the strength of the cast. The surface patination will dull over the years but it can sustain being outside for long periods of time. Cleaning and care will prolong the life of Bronze resin. EJKemp’s resin casts are produced by LS Sculpture Castings near Aylesbury.
